    On-post housing is not available for Fort Devens, but service members may be put on a waiting list for on-post housing aboard Hanscom AFB approximately 25 miles away. Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH) will help service members with living expenses for on-post housing at Hanscom AFB, or off-post housing within the Fort Devens community.

    Surrounding Areas

    Fort Devens is located in the central part of the state, surrounded by both suburban towns and cities. Worcester, Leominster, and Fitchburg are the cities; smaller communities include Ayer, Shirley, Lancaster, Littleton, Harvard, and Groton, which offer housing near small town centers or further out in a country setting. A commute to post is usually about 15-20 minutes.

    The major city of Boston is located just one hour east of Fort Devens. There are plenty of things to do and see near Devens, but Boston adds the access of a major metropolitan area that central Massachusetts can't offer.     About Fort Devens
    Fort Devens is used as a main hub for the Marine Corps Reserve and the Army Reserve Command. The Army has expanded the base into a new training center which occupies over 280,000 square feet across 57 acres. Fort Devens includes 25 ranges and 21 training areas and is located in the town of Ayer and Shirley in the counties of Middlesex and Worcester, Massachusetts. For more information click here
